William Trowbridge Merrifield Forbes was a professor in the Department of Entomology at Cornell University. He published about 150 scientific papers on insects and wrote LEPIDOPTERA OF NEW YORK AND NEIGHBORING STATES, a four-part work. He was president of the Lepidopterists' Society in 1953 and was later elected a life member.
